Spiced wine Apicius
The Roman Cookery of Apicius
1 cup white wine Heat and dissolve, stirring continuously. Combine. Simmer one hour over low heat, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon. Strain before drinking.
1 lb honey
1 teaspoon ground pepper  
pinch of saffron  
1 crushed bay leaf  
1 teaspoon cinammon  
2 dates Steep, chop dates finely.
3 litres white wine
Serve at room temperature if accompanying food, otherwise hot.
